Katy Newcomb, College Sense
An effective metaphor for the role a college advisor plays is that of a “co-pilot” in the college admissions process. With over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S., a college consultant can help narrow the field, clarify goals and values, and identify schools that are a strong academic and social fit. As your college consultant, I will have your student complete college and career surveys that help define clear goals and possible career paths before selecting a program. Without this guidance, students risk switching majors multiple times – something that happens to 1 in 10 students (National Center for Education Statistics), often leading to additional semester and tuition costs. I can also help reduce family stress, giving you your dinner conversation back. Many teens are more receptive to ideas and suggestions from a third party than from their parents. Let me help your family find the best path forward for your college applicant!
From test prep to college list building and essay coaching, I provide tailored support to help students find their best-fit schools and maximize their potential.
With expert insights and a student-centered approach, I make the path to college clear, strategic, and stress-free.

Proven Experience
With 29 years of teaching and 6 years of college advising, I know how to connect with students, identify their strengths, and guide them through a successful admissions process.
Personalized Approach
No two students are the same. I completed UCLA’s College Advising Certificate program last year and learned proven ways to create a customized college prep plan to match each student’s academic goals, interests, and learning style for every step in the college application process from forming a college list to comparing aid awards and helping students make smooth transitions into college.
Financial Fit Focus
College should be a great academic and financial fit for the student/ family. I help families explore colleges that offer merit scholarships as well as other financial aid options to make cost-conscious college choices, ensuring a smart investment in their student’s future.
